DIABLo Instructions
Welcome to the DIABLo instruction page.
The device is designed to bring any plug in electric car into a non drivable state, either hybrid or full EV. In most full EV’s it will also apply the brakes.
If the device has worked, the display on the dashboard will say N or P rather than D or R.
Most full EV’s will also apply the electronic parking brake, you may hear it apply. Thereby providing you with a stable platform to work on. A simple push of the vehicle, if possible, will determine if the brakes are on or not. They will not release until DIABLo is removed and/or the ignition is cycled off and on again. Even then they may not.
How to Use DIABLo
1. Remove DIABLo from its bag and remove the end cap, if fitted. Most UK vehicles will be a type 2 plug which is the larger end.
2. Locate and open, possibly by force, the charge port on the car. You will be able to locate this from your Mobile Data Terminal in the appliance or by using an app such as Euro Rescue. They are usually obvious and look like a petrol flap, some maybe on the front or rear of the vehicle though, or behind a lamp such as on a Tesla.
3. Once the charge port is open, plug the appropriate end of the DIABLo into the charge port.
4. On a full EV you may hear the brakes being applied.
5. Check the dashboard display, if possible, to see if it indicates N or P rather than D or R. If the dashboard is off the car has disabled itself in the incident. Deployed airbags will also indicate this.
6. DIABLo can be left in the charge port until you leave the scene, or it can be removed and used on another vehicle. Some vehicles will need DIABLo to stay in to keep the non-driving state active though. Vehicle software updates can alter the speed of the effect DIABLo has, but it will always get the vehicle into a non-driving state as it thinks it’s on charge. R100 standards dictate this to be the case.
7. The effect DIABLo has on the car will only be undone once the ignition is cycled. If DIABLo is left in place the car cannot be driven or possibly even moved as the effect will remain.
8. 9. If DIABLo doesn’t work then the car is most likely already disabled due to the effect of the accident. NB: many deployed airbags will also indicate this. But the brakes may not be on. DIABLo will not work in this situation but the car cannot now be driven as the vehicle systems are disabled by other means.
9. Once the event is over remove DIABLo from the car and replace the end caps and put it back in its bag for protection.
10. Periodic testing of the device can be carried out on any EV/Plug In Hybrid in a non-emergency situation.
Please note that this product only serves to simulate a charging state/plug presence and to tell the vehicle not to try to drive away, the response to the DIABLo device is always manufacturer dependent and not DIABLo dependant.
